Chinese Military Uses Electronic Warfare to Repel Dutch Warship in South China Sea
Chinese naval and air forces have reportedly used electronic warfare tactics to drive away a Dutch air defense frigate, the HNLMS De Ruyter, near the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. According to the People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theater Command, the Dutch vessel intruded into the airspace of the Paracel Islands, which are under Chinese control. The Chinese military claims the actions taken were necessary and in accordance with laws and regulations. The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region, where China has established a network of electronic warfare capabilities. The Dutch frigate was part of a mission to promote freedom of navigation and was scheduled to participate in naval drills around Hawaii.
