Mobile Midwifery Clinics in Miami-Dade County Address Maternal Health Disparities
In Miami-Dade County, a mobile midwifery clinic operated by the Southern Birth Justice Network is providing prenatal, postpartum, and general women's health care to predominantly Black and Latino neighborhoods. The clinic, housed in an RV, offers a relaxed and culturally sensitive environment where women can receive care from midwives and doulas. This initiative aims to address the high maternal and infant mortality rates among women of color in the U.S., which are significantly higher than those of white women. The mobile clinic provides services such as blood pressure monitoring, blood tests, and discussions about mental health and birthing preferences. The clinic's approach is community-centered, aiming to make healthcare more accessible and responsive to the needs of patients.
