John Gotti's Grandson Sentenced for Covid Fraud, Faces 15 Months in Prison
Carmine Agnello, the grandson of the notorious mobster John Gotti, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for defrauding the federal government out of $1.1 million in Covid relief funds. Agnello applied for multiple Covid relief loans for his auto parts business in 2020 and misused over $400,000 of the funds by investing in cryptocurrency. He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in 2024, and prosecutors initially sought a three-year sentence. However, Judge Nusrat Choudhury reduced the sentence to 15 months and ordered Agnello to pay $1.2 million in restitution, which is $100,000 less than what prosecutors requested. Prior to sentencing, Agnello's uncle, John Gotti Jr., wrote a letter to the judge, suggesting that Agnello's participation in the reality show 'Growing Up Gotti' contributed to his distorted sense of reality. Agnello's mother, Victoria Gotti, had also pleaded for leniency, citing her need for a kidney transplant from her son.
