FEMA Allocates $20 Million for Flood Mitigation in Southeast U.S.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the allocation of nearly $20 million in flood mitigation grants for projects across the Southeast United States. This funding is part of a broader initiative to enhance resilience against natural disasters, with a total of over $250 million earmarked for 100 projects nationwide. The Southeast projects will focus on areas in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, and South Carolina, targeting both coastal and inland properties. These efforts include elevating homes, acquiring and demolishing flood-prone properties, and addressing stormwater runoff issues. The initiative is part of FEMA's Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, which aims to prepare state and local governments for various natural disasters.
