Pharmacy Education Faces Challenges in Preparing Pharmacists for Cognitive Demands
Pharmacy education in the UK is undergoing significant changes to address the evolving role of pharmacists, who are increasingly involved in prescribing and complex clinical decision-making. The General Pharmaceutical Council's 2021 standards emphasize person-centered care, leadership, and clinical reasoning. From September 2026, newly qualified pharmacists in England will register as independent prescribers.
