Massachusetts House Proposes $22.4 Billion MassHealth Funding Amid Federal Cuts
The Massachusetts House of Representatives has proposed a budget for fiscal year 2027 that allocates $22.41 billion to MassHealth, the state's Medicaid program. This proposal represents a $282 million increase from the previous fiscal year. The budget aims to address the anticipated loss of $3.5 billion in annual federal healthcare funding due to the implementation of the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This federal law is expected to result in significant coverage losses, potentially increasing the demand on the state's Health Safety Net. The House Ways and Means Committee, led by Chair Aaron Michlewitz, has also proposed a cap on MassHealth adult dental benefits at $1,750 annually, a compromise from Governor Maura Healey's suggested $1,000 cap. The budget includes investments in primary care rates, behavioral health, and various health programs, while also extending a ConnectorCare pilot program for subsidized coverage.
