McPherson Fire Department Responds to Major Fire at Kansas Food Plant, Ensures Safe Evacuation
The McPherson Fire Department responded to a significant fire at Wald Family Foods in McPherson, Kansas, on Thursday night. The fire, which began around 10:30 p.m., was reported through an automatic fire alarm indicating water flow from the facility's sprinkler system. Upon arrival, the first engine crew observed a fire on the roof and requested a second alarm. The fire involved an oven on a production line and had spread through the oven's roof exhaust system, igniting adjacent roofing materials. Firefighters from McPherson, along with mutual aid from Inman and Galva Fire Departments, worked to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, and no injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by an equipment malfunction that allowed excessive heat to build up, igniting grease and food debris.
