Five Dead in Targeted Mass Shooting in East St. Louis; Two Teenagers in Custody
Five people were killed and two others wounded in a targeted mass shooting against a family in East St. Louis, Illinois, according to police. The shootings occurred on Sunday at three different locations within the city, including a park. Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly stated that two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, have been taken into custody after troopers stopped a vehicle suspected in the shootings. The victims who died were aged 74, 49, 25, 24, and 21. While the exact relationship between the victims was not detailed, Kelly confirmed that at least one suspect was connected to the family. Marcus May, a relative, reported losing his stepchildren, mother, and a sister in the incident. St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric indicated that a decision on criminal charges could be made by Tuesday. City Council member Courtney Hoffman emphasized that this was not a random act of violence, reassuring the public that it was a targeted incident.
