Identity Verification in School Records: Ensuring Compliance and Security
Identity verification for school records is a critical process that ensures the person requesting or signing an education record is who they claim to be. This process is aligned with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) identity proofing model, which includes three steps: resolution, validation, and verification. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires educational institutions to use reasonable methods to authenticate identities, which must be consistent across all access channels. The process involves collecting identity attributes such as full legal name, date of birth, and government ID number, confirming the authenticity of credentials, and establishing a linkage between the validated identity and the real person through biometric face matching.
