Mainland Spokeswoman Asserts Unstoppable Cross-Strait Cooperation Amid Rising Tensions
Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized the unstoppable nature of exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, despite recent tensions. At a press briefing, Zhang highlighted the strong complementarity between the industrial structures of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, citing trade figures that show significant growth in cross-Strait trade. In the first half of 2026, trade reached $185 billion, with mainland imports from Taiwan increasing by 22.5% and exports to Taiwan growing by 32.9%. Zhang reiterated that expanding economic and trade cooperation serves the shared interests of businesses and people on both sides, aligning with economic laws and market principles.
