Philippines Conducts Nationwide School Safety Drills Following Recent Shootings
The Philippines' Department of Education, in collaboration with security agencies, has initiated nationwide school safety drills. These drills, such as the one conducted at Carlos F. Gonzales High School in Bulacan province, aim to enhance emergency preparedness in response to recent school shooting incidents. During the drills, students and teachers practice active shooter protocols, including locking classroom doors, drawing curtains, turning off lights, and sheltering under desks. School officials coordinate with emergency responders, activate warning systems, and conduct evacuations and headcounts. The exercises also include provisions for first-aid treatment and psychosocial support for those affected. These measures are being implemented despite school shootings being rare in the Philippines, where firearm regulations are strict.
