Israel Aerospace Industries to Unveil New Aerostat-Based Radar System in Washington D.C.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is set to introduce a new radar system, POINT@AIR, at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual defense exhibition in Washington, D.C. This system utilizes a tethered balloon, known as an aerostat, to provide military forces with an enhanced view of potential threats from air, sea, or land. Unlike traditional ground-based radars, which can be obstructed by terrain and structures, POINT@AIR's elevated position allows for a broader detection range, particularly for low-flying drones and other aerial threats. Developed by IAI's ELTA Systems division, the technology combines long-range detection with 360-degree coverage, capable of monitoring multiple targets simultaneously and transmitting data to military command-and-control systems. The system is designed for mobility, allowing for relocation as operational needs evolve, and is based on IAI's ELM-2083 radar family, incorporating active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology for electronic beam directio...
