Russia's Floating Nuclear Plant Passes Key Safety Audit
The Akademik Lomonosov, the world's only operating floating nuclear power plant, has successfully passed a comprehensive safety audit conducted by international inspectors. The review, carried out by a team from the World Association of Nuclear Operators, focused on critical areas such as maintenance, engineering support, and emergency preparedness. The plant, located in the Arctic port of Pevek, serves as a mobile power generation unit for isolated coastal communities, providing both electricity and district heating. The facility combines naval vessel design with small modular reactor technology, offering a unique solution for energy needs in extreme environments.
