Arizona Man Pleads Guilty in $8.8 Million Employee Benefit Embezzlement Case
James Vincent Campbell, a 49-year-old Scottsdale man and CEO of Axim Fringe Solutions Group, has pleaded guilty to one count of theft from an Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) plan. Campbell embezzled $8.8 million from an employee benefit plan, diverting funds intended for health insurance and 401(k) accounts of federal contractors' employees. Instead of forwarding the money to the designated carriers and retirement accounts, Campbell pooled the funds in a master trust account and used a significant portion for personal expenses. These expenses included big game hunting trips, taxidermy, jewelry, casino gambling, and direct payments to his girlfriend. Prosecutors stated that Campbell made 135 unauthorized withdrawals over nine years, with $2.5 million withdrawn between 2015 and 2024, exceeding legitimate fees owed to Axim. Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva highlighted that Campbell directly stole from these accounts.
