Record-breaking heat to impact over 100 million along East Coast this week
A significant heat wave is set to affect the East Coast later this week, with temperatures expected to soar 10 to 15 degrees above mid-June averages. Starting Thursday, a moist airmass will bring dew points into the upper 60s and low 70s, creating oppressive humidity. Highs are forecasted to reach the mid to upper 90s in cities such as Richmond, Washington, D.C., and New York City. Factoring in the humidity, heat indices could climb into the triple digits. The National Weather Service may issue heat advisories or Extreme Heat Watches if these conditions persist. On Friday alone, over 40 record highs could be broken, with cities like Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., potentially experiencing their hottest days of the year. This heat wave is expected to persist through much of June, according to the Climate Prediction Center.
