Basic Income Program Ends, Participants Return to Multiple Jobs
Cepia Harper, a participant in Atlanta's basic income program, received $20,400 over two years as part of a pilot aimed at supporting low-income Black women. The program allowed her to secure housing, earn a teaching certification, and stabilize her financial situation. However, since the program ended, Harper has returned to working multiple jobs to make ends meet. The basic income initiative, run by The Georgia Resilience and Opportunity Fund and GiveDirectly, was designed to supplement existing social safety nets and help participants improve their economic standing. Harper's experience highlights both the immediate benefits and the challenges faced after the program's conclusion.
