W.K. Kellogg Foundation Report Shows Tripled Kindergarten Readiness in Battle Creek
A new report from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) indicates that kindergarten readiness among children in Battle Creek Public Schools more than tripled over a decade, increasing from 15% in 2013-2014 to nearly 55% in 2023-2024. This progress surpasses the national kindergarten readiness rate of 50%. The report, titled “Tripling Kindergarten Readiness and Transforming the Early Care and Education System in Battle Creek,” attributes this success to a decade-long, community-led initiative. This effort involved families, early childhood providers, schools, nonprofits, and government agencies working together to strengthen Battle Creek’s early care and education system. Key approaches identified include building strong partnerships, practicing patience, using data to guide decisions, meeting families where they are, and developing the workforce. The WKKF, founded in 1930 by W.K. Kellogg, is a philanthropic foundation focused on creating conditions for vulnerable children to thrive.
