Columbia University Students File Complaint Against Energy Thinktank Over Big Oil Funding
Student activists from Columbia University's Sunrise Movement chapter have filed an administrative complaint against the university's Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP), alleging deceptive trade practices due to undisclosed financial ties with fossil fuel companies. The complaint, submitted to the New York City consumer protection bureau, claims that CGEP misrepresents itself as an independent research organization while accepting millions in funding from major oil companies like ExxonMobil and Shell. The students argue that this funding influences the center's research, which informs climate policy at both state and national levels. Columbia University, however, maintains that all funding sources are disclosed and that the center's work remains unbiased.
