Former NASA Astronauts Launch Campaign to Promote Voting and Democracy
A group of over 100 former NASA astronauts has launched a non-partisan advocacy group called Astronauts for America. The initiative aims to restore faith in the United States' constitutional democracy by encouraging politicians and the public to commit to constitutional principles. The campaign, named 'Vote for Freedom,' was launched at the California Science Center on July 20, 2026, coinciding with the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The group plans to tour approximately 60 college campuses, particularly in swing states, to engage young and first-time voters ahead of the November midterm elections. The astronauts, including notable figures like Charles Bolden and Bill Nelson, emphasize the importance of voting as a fundamental democratic right and responsibility.
