McAllen Attorney Faces Theft Charge Amid Allegations of Unperformed Legal Work
A McAllen attorney, Karina Michelle Cerda, is facing allegations from a client, Martino Ruiz, who claims that she failed to perform agreed-upon legal services after he paid a $2,500 retainer fee. Ruiz sought Cerda's assistance for a fraud and breach of contract case but alleges that no lawsuit was filed on his behalf. Despite Cerda's claims of having prepared legal documents, Ruiz states he never received confirmation of any filed petition. The situation led Ruiz to file a report with the McAllen Police Department, although no charges have been filed as of August 4. This case is part of a broader investigation, as Cerda was previously arrested on a theft of services charge in a separate incident involving another client.
