Artemis 2 Crew Set for Historic Splashdown After Lunar Mission
The Artemis 2 mission, which saw four astronauts travel to the Moon, is set to conclude with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The crew, consisting of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, launched on April 1 and completed a lunar flyby on April 6. The mission marks the first crewed journey beyond Earth orbit since the Apollo program. The Orion spacecraft, named Integrity, will re-enter Earth's atmosphere at high speed, undergo a communications blackout, and deploy parachutes for a safe landing. The crew will be airlifted to the USS John P. Murtha for medical evaluations post-splashdown.
