UNCDF Initiative Exceeds Climate Adaptation Targets in Ghana with Localized Funding
The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), with funding from the Government of Norway, has successfully concluded a four-year climate adaptation initiative in Ghana, surpassing its original targets. Implemented through UNCDF’s Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCAL) mechanism, the program channeled $1.27 million, with 87% directed to local climate financing, training, and awareness. This funding supported 35 climate-resilient infrastructure and circular economy investments across six Municipal and District Assemblies. The initiative reached over 69,000 people, exceeding the target by 32%, with nearly half of the beneficiaries being women. Projects included resilient bridges, agricultural irrigation dams, climate-smart agriculture, and biofertilizer production. The program also strengthened local capacity by training 239 individuals in climate adaptation skills and integrating climate risk assessments into local development planning.
