Tarik Samman Challenges Rep. Katherine Clark in Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District
Tarik Samman, a 27-year-old Lowell native and son of Syrian immigrants, is running in the Democratic primary for Massachusetts’ 5th Congressional District, challenging incumbent House Minority Whip Katherine Clark. Samman, a first-time politician, researcher, and union organizer, aims to make Massachusetts more affordable by focusing on increasing access to housing and healthcare. He also advocates for significant changes in foreign policy, particularly regarding U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts, and seeks to limit the influence of Political Action Committees (PACs) in Washington. Samman, who lived through the Syrian Civil War, believes his background offers a unique perspective on foreign affairs. He is the youngest candidate in the District 5 race, emphasizing the need for younger generations to have a greater say in Congress.
