Global Media Coalition Highlights 'Anti-State' Charges Against Journalists Worldwide
Ahead of World Press Freedom Day, the One Free Press Coalition, comprising over 40 global media outlets, has released its '10 Most Urgent' list, spotlighting journalists facing 'anti-state' charges. This list, compiled with the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF), and Reporters Without Borders (RSF), highlights the plight of journalists like Pham Doan Trang from Vietnam, who is serving a nine-year sentence for 'anti-state propaganda'. The coalition aims to draw attention to the 330 journalists currently imprisoned worldwide, with 61% held on such charges. The list also includes journalists from countries like Iran, Hong Kong, and Cameroon, emphasizing the global nature of press persecution.
