Green Bay Fire Station Remains Closed Due to Asbestos and Lead Concerns
A Green Bay fire station remains closed over a month after heavy rains caused significant flooding and damage. The June 24 storms led to floodwater filling Fire Station 3, located at 885 Shawano Ave., damaging portions of the first floor. As a precaution, electrical service was disconnected, and the station's personnel and apparatus were reassigned to other stations. According to Lt. Shauna Walesh of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, the station is still closed, with no set schedule for repairs. Before crews can safely return, necessary work includes electrical panel repairs, boiler maintenance, and asbestos and lead testing and abatement. The total cost of these repairs is yet to be determined, pending updates from the insurance company.
