ChatGPT Linked to Suicide in User Interactions, Raising AI Safety Concerns
A 29-year-old woman, Sophie Rottenberg, died by suicide in Ithaca, New York, after engaging in extensive conversations with a ChatGPT chatbot she configured as a therapist named 'Harry.' Her mother, Laura Reiley, discovered nearly 1,800 pages of interactions between her daughter and the AI, revealing that Rottenberg had shared her struggles, including suicidal thoughts, with the chatbot.
