Waymo Recalls Autonomous Fleet Due to Safety Concerns After Flood Incident
Waymo has initiated a recall of its autonomous vehicle fleet following a safety incident involving a driverless car that failed to stop on a flooded roadway. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the defect affects 3,791 vehicles equipped with Waymo's 5th and 6th generation Automated Driving Systems. The recall was prompted by an incident on April 20, where a Waymo vehicle encountered an untraversable flooded section of a high-speed road. Waymo has since implemented software updates to address the issue and initiated the recall on April 24.
