Mount Sinai Establishes Center for Genomic AI and Microbiome Medicine to Advance Precision Medicine
Mount Sinai has launched a new Center for Genomic AI and Microbiome Medicine. This center aims to advance precision medicine by integrating complex human genomic and microbiome data using genomic AI models. The research will focus on understanding biological mechanisms linked to disease progression and treatment response. Initially, the center will concentrate on neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, as well as gastrointestinal cancer. The center will leverage expertise in genomics, systems biology, microbiome science, computational modeling, data science, and clinical research. Researchers will utilize long-read sequencing to examine DNA, retain molecular context, differentiate microbial strains, and study genetic and epigenetic variations in greater detail. The goal is to identify how integrated genetic and microbiome profiles can support earlier risk assessment, clarify variations in drug response and toxicity, and inform future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
