Milwaukee Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio Settles Lawsuit Over Illegal Sand Removal in Malibu
Mark Attanasio, owner of the MLB's Milwaukee Brewers, has settled a lawsuit regarding the illegal removal of sand, rocks, and boulders from a public beach in Malibu. The California Coastal Commission found that Attanasio's company, 2XMD Partners LLC, used heavy equipment to excavate sand to reinforce an unpermitted seawall in front of his $23 million oceanfront home. The lawsuit, initiated by neighbor James Kohlberg, alleged that heavy equipment operated in tidal zones, leaked oil, and damaged marine life, including sensitive coastal habitats. As part of the settlement, Attanasio will donate an undeveloped beachfront parcel, valued at approximately $2 million, to the state near Big Rock Beach, about 14 miles from his mansion. His company is also required to restore the damaged area and remove an unpermitted private beach stairway and a revetment that hindered public access.
