Airbus US Conducts Successful Autonomous Flight Test for USMC Helicopter Program
Airbus US Space & Defense, in collaboration with Shield AI, L3Harris Technologies, and Parry Labs, has completed a fourth autonomous flight test for the US Marine Corps' Aerial Logistics Connector (ALC) program. This test, conducted at Airbus' facility in Grand Prairie, Texas, is part of the second year of the ALC Middle Tier of Acquisition rapid prototyping program. The test involved the H145D3 ALC helicopter, integrating technologies from all four companies into a single aircraft. The focus was on refining the aircraft's perception system to provide accurate, real-time information to an autonomous pilot, ensuring obstacle avoidance within a landing zone. The helicopter autonomously evaluated a landing zone, detected obstacles, and rerouted to alternate sites as needed.
