Massachusetts Woman Missing After Nepal Flash Floods
A woman from Lexington, Massachusetts, Jyoti Rai, is among the thousands reported missing in Nepal following severe flash floods that devastated parts of the country. Rai was on a spiritual pilgrimage for her 50th birthday when the disaster struck. Her family had last spoken to her minutes before the floods, at which point she informed her husband that she was preparing to go through Chinese immigration. Since then, there has been no contact. According to her close friend, Manmeet Singh Meet, the hotel where Rai was staying has been swept away by the floodwaters, leading to deep concern among her family that she may have perished. As of Friday, at least 90 Americans were missing, according to the State Department, while local Nepalese officials reported nearly 700 bodies found and over 3,000 people still missing.
