Air Quality Alert Issued for Indiana: Unhealthy Ozone Levels Expected
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has issued an Air Quality Action Day for June 4th, 2026, due to elevated ozone levels. The alert, effective until midnight EDT, warns that ozone concentrations are expected to reach the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' range. This means that individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, as well as active children and adults, should minimize prolonged outdoor activities. The IDEM has provided guidance to help reduce ozone formation, including using public transportation, avoiding drive-through services, and delaying activities like refueling vehicles or using gasoline-powered equipment until after 7 PM.
