Study Links Wildfire Smoke Exposure to Increased Cancer Risk
A new study presented at an American Association for Cancer Research meeting suggests that prolonged exposure to wildfire smoke may increase the risk of several types of cancer, including lung, colorectal, breast, bladder, and blood cancers. The research, which is not yet peer-reviewed, analyzed data from over 91,000 individuals and found a correlation between higher levels of smoke exposure and increased cancer risk. As wildfires become more frequent due to climate change, the study's authors warn that smoke could become a significant driver of cancer in the U.S.
