Konavle Traffic Chaos Highlights Border Control Challenges
The municipality of Konavle in southern Croatia is experiencing severe traffic congestion due to a combination of factors, including biometric border controls. The traffic jam extends from Čilipi to the Montenegro border at Karasovići, with some travelers reportedly stuck for up to 28 hours. The congestion has paralyzed local roads, affecting daily activities and raising concerns about emergency response capabilities. The situation began on a Saturday night, and local authorities, including Mayor Božo Lasić, have been actively seeking solutions. The issue is exacerbated by the narrow state road D8, which only allows one lane of traffic in each direction.
