Bipartisan Lawmakers Introduce Rural Hospital Cybersecurity Enhancement Act to Protect Patient Data
A group of bipartisan lawmakers, including Representatives Glenn 'GT' Thompson, Kim Schrier, Erin Houchin, Jill Tokuda, Jefferson Shreve, and Jennifer McClellan, have introduced the Rural Hospital Cybersecurity Enhancement Act. This legislation aims to bolster cybersecurity protections for rural hospitals, which often lack the resources to defend against sophisticated cyber threats. The bill directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop a comprehensive cybersecurity workforce strategy, provide training materials, and offer annual updates to Congress on the implementation of these measures. The initiative is supported by several health organizations, including the American Hospital Association and the National Rural Health Association.
