NASA's Artemis II Mission Achieves Record Distance and Captures Historic Lunar Images
The Artemis II mission has set a new record for the farthest distance traveled by humans from Earth, surpassing the previous record set by Apollo 13 astronauts in 1970. The mission reached 406,684 kilometers (252,700 miles) from Earth. During this historic mission, the crew captured the first images from the far side of the moon, showing Earth rising above the lunar horizon. The mission also included a rare view of a solar eclipse from lunar orbit. The crew, consisting of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, conducted detailed lunar observations and proposed names for two previously unnamed craters.
