Ekponiboro Atan Abam Festival Revives Cultural Heritage in Nigeria
The Ekponiboro Atan Abam festival, held on April 4, 2026, celebrated the cultural heritage and economic history of the Atan Abam community in Nigeria. The event, organized by the Unubiko Foundation and led by Chief James Umeh, featured cultural presentations from 27 villages and clans with common ancestry. The festival highlighted the community's historical trade practices using inland waterways, with demonstrations of traditional boat journeys and trading methods. The event also showcased the philanthropic efforts of Chief Umeh, who announced scholarships for students from all 27 villages in Abam. The festival, which had nearly gone extinct, was revived to promote cultural pride and community development.
