Study Reveals Unequal Progress in Global Childhood IBD Diagnosis and Survival
A recent study published in Pediatric Research has highlighted significant disparities in the diagnosis and survival rates of early-onset inflammatory bowel disease (EO-IBD) in children under 10 years old. The research, which analyzed data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 database, found that while there has been a notable decrease in mortality rates, the incidence of new cases has remained relatively stable. The study revealed that the burden of EO-IBD varies widely across different regions, reflecting disparities in healthcare access, diagnostic capabilities, and socioeconomic development. The analysis covered 204 countries and territories, examining incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years.
