Spokane Wildfires Force Evacuations and Destroy Hundreds of Homes
The Spokane Area Fires, a combination of the Old Trails, Fairview, and Autumn Lane fires, have caused widespread devastation in Spokane County, Washington. As of August 3, 2026, approximately 65,000 residents have been evacuated, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Whitworth University, and the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. Early reports indicate over 700 homes have been destroyed, and many areas remain inaccessible for damage assessment. Relief efforts are underway, with organizations like the Red Cross, Partners Inland Northwest, and Catholic Charities Eastern Washington providing shelters, food, clothing, and financial assistance to affected individuals and families.
