Texas Law Enforcement Intensifies Speed Limit Enforcement During 'Operation Slowdown'
Law enforcement agencies across Texas are increasing their presence on roads to enforce speed limits more strictly as part of 'Operation Slowdown.' This initiative, which began on July 18 and will continue through August 2, 2026, is part of the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) 'Be Safe. Drive Smart.' speeding awareness campaign. The campaign aims to encourage drivers to slow down and adapt their driving to current road conditions to enhance safety. According to TxDOT, speeding was a factor in over 150,000 traffic accidents in Texas in 2025, leading to 1,247 fatalities and 5,652 serious injuries. As part of the operation, law enforcement will not only issue more tickets but also increase their visibility on the roads to remind drivers of safe speed practices.
