Bacterial Warning Issued for Los Angeles County Beaches Following Rainfall
Los Angeles County health officials have issued an 'Ocean Water Quality Rain Advisory' for all beaches in the county due to elevated bacteria levels following recent rainfall. The advisory warns that runoff from streets and mountains has carried various pollutants, including trash, fertilizers, animal waste, and human pathogens, into the ocean. This situation has turned the coastline into a drainage basin, posing health risks to beachgoers. The advisory is in effect until Tuesday morning, but it may be extended if additional showers occur. The Department of Public Health cautions that bacteria levels may remain high for up to three days, depending on the rain's intensity and runoff volume. Elevated bacteria levels can cause illness, particularly in vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
