Kilauea erupts again, lava shoots 1,000 feet high
Kīlauea volcano erupted in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, marking its 45th eruptive episode since December 23, 2024. The eruption began just after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23. Lava fountains soared up to 1,000 feet, with ash and gas plumes rising to 16,500 feet. The United States Geological Survey said activity had been building since Monday, April 20. While volcanic gas and debris remain hazards, no immediate threat to nearby communities has been reported.
