Lawmakers Push for RASCOM to Enhance Military's Robotic Capabilities
Lawmakers are advocating for the establishment of a new combatant command, RASCOM, to accelerate the military's adoption of robotic and autonomous systems. This proposal is included in the Senate Armed Services Committee's version of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2027. RASCOM aims to centralize oversight of autonomous systems, standardizing their use across the armed services. Proponents argue that this will help the military embrace modern warfare technologies. However, critics warn that creating another command could lead to bureaucratic inefficiencies and mission creep, potentially hindering the deployment of these technologies.
