FDA and CDC Investigate E. coli Outbreak Linked to Recalled GreenWise Frozen Berries
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating a multistate E. coli outbreak linked to GreenWise organic frozen blueberries sold at Publix stores. The recall affects products distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The FDA has identified 12 illnesses, including four hospitalizations, associated with the outbreak. The contamination has been traced to organic frozen blueberries produced by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. in Chile. The FDA has placed an import alert on the company's frozen blueberries, allowing future shipments to be detained while the investigation continues.
