Israeli Tax Fraud Convict Extradited from Panama After Global Manhunt
Yaniv Mualem, an Israeli man convicted of tax fraud, has been extradited to Israel from Panama following a two-and-a-half-year international manhunt. Mualem was involved in one of Israel's most significant fraud cases, defrauding the State Treasury of NIS 65 million through money laundering and the use of shell companies. After confessing to his crimes, he fled Israel, prompting a global pursuit involving the Tax Authority, the State Attorney's Office, the Israel Police, and Interpol. Mualem was eventually located in Panama in September 2024, leading to his arrest and subsequent extradition. Upon his return, Israeli authorities have requested to extend his detention until legal proceedings are completed.
