Governor Lombardo Clarifies Tax Abatement Rules for Boulder City Data Center Project
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has responded to a letter from Congresswoman Dina Titus regarding a proposed data center project in Boulder City, emphasizing that a previously approved Renewable Energy Tax Abatement (RETA) for a solar project cannot be transferred to the data center. The RETA, approved in 2024 for Townsite Solar II, LLC, was specifically for a solar generation and storage project on land leased from Boulder City. State law explicitly prohibits a project from receiving both a data center abatement and a RETA. Governor Lombardo stressed the importance of a responsible, fact-based approach to the issue and highlighted that Nevada's abatement processes include public reporting, input opportunities, and accountability requirements tied to jobs and investment. His office is actively engaging with various stakeholders to understand concerns related to water, power, noise, economic development, and land use surrounding data center development.
