Minneapolis Audit Committee Approves Review of $11 Million in City Funding to Public Housing Authority
The Minneapolis Audit Committee has approved a request from City Council members to audit the spending of the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA). This decision comes amidst growing concerns regarding the conditions at Heritage Park, a public housing complex. City Council Member Pearll Warren initiated the request, citing what she described as uninhabitable conditions at Heritage Park. The audit will specifically examine how the MPHA is spending $11 million received from the City of Minneapolis this year. While the MPHA receives the majority of its funding (nearly 95%) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the $11 million from the city supports various programs, including the Stable Homes Stable Schools program and an Emergency Housing Voucher pilot program.
