OpenAI Co-Founder Donates $5.5 Million to Preserve Land Near Big Bear Eagle Nest
Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, and his wife Anna have donated $5.5 million to a fundraiser aimed at purchasing land near the nest of the famous Big Bear eagles, Jackie and Shadow. This donation helps the Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit organization, reach its $10 million fundraising goal. The land, previously slated for development, is considered critical foraging habitat for the eagles. The donation comes at a time when Jackie, one of the eagles, is in critical condition following a blood transfusion. The land trust plans to purchase the parcel and cover associated costs, opting not to transfer it to the U.S. Forest Service due to concerns over federal protection.
