DNA Nanorobots Offer Precision in Cancer Treatment by Targeting Tumor Blood Supply
Researchers have developed DNA nanorobots that can deliver drugs directly to cancer cells, minimizing damage to healthy tissue. These nanorobots, made from DNA origami, are designed to become active only at specific locations, such as tumor-feeding blood vessels. In 2018, a team led by Baoquan Ding and Hao Yan successfully tested these nanorobots in mice, where they patrolled the bloodstream and targeted tumors by shutting off their blood supply without affecting healthy tissue. This approach contrasts with traditional chemotherapy, which affects both cancerous and healthy cells, leading to severe side effects.
