Democrats Introduce Comprehensive Wildfire Response Legislation
A group of Democratic lawmakers, including Representatives Joe Neguse, Jared Huffman, Angie Craig, Andrea Salinas, and George Whitesides, have introduced the Wildfire Response and Readiness Act. This legislative package consists of 25 bills aimed at enhancing federal wildfire response and readiness. The legislation seeks to protect wildlands, prepare communities for disasters, and provide federal firefighters with increased support and benefits. The initiative comes in response to the growing threat of wildfires, which have already burned over 5.5 million acres in the U.S. this year. The act focuses on prevention, mitigation, and response strategies, as well as improving compensation and job security for wildland firefighters.
